We are so generous, we *LET* you use PTO as sick days

I started my job almost 5 months ago and recently qualified for benefits, I read this in the PTO description document: “ PTO can be used for a number of reasons, vacation, mental health day, personal days, religious holidays, bereavement time, etc. PTO is offered in this manner to intentionally allow for flexibility in use … (company) recognizes that team members will need time off from time to time to care for their medical needs. “ PTO can be used for a number of reasons, vacation, mental health day, personal days, religious holidays, bereavement time, etc. PTO is

offered in this manner to intentionally allow for flexibility in use …
(company) recognizes that team members will need time off from time to time to care for their medical needs. (company) allows the ability to use available paid time off for many various reasons, including when you do need time off for medical needs.”

This is the first time I have ever been eligible for benefits or had PTO, so feel free to tell me if this is just how it is, but I believe sick days should be separate. it feels like they’re saying, “You can have a vacation, or you can get sick, not both, because we are so GENEROUS we allow you to use your 5 days for any reason!! “

I also wanted to include that this is the only issue I have had with my job and overall it is a good company. this one thing just frustrated me, specifically the way it was worded to make them look good

edit: i’m not sure why the first part of the quote is highlighted and separate? apologies for the funky format
