We forgot unions work

As a country we have forgotten unions work. Most of us have no longer think they hold relevance in our society and are full of thugs and do not hold membership (I don’t). But we wouldn’t have 4 weeks guaranteed annual leave and 10 days sick leave which accrues if not taken. We wouldn’t have worker’s compensation, the right to regular breaks, maximum hours of work and overtime pay. Job guarantee’s for maternity leave, unfair dismissal laws and health and safety regulations and probably a few other things I can’t think of. There are countries that don’t have these and other that have more. We should be wary of governments and businesses that actively look to dismantle functioning unions because these hard won rights can be watered down. I’m not trying to promote unionisation but we shouldn’t forget what they have done for us either
