So I was desperate for a job and was hired on by our local Cracker Barrel as a Dishwasher and maintenance. Well, when covid hit, everyone was told not to come back to work until further notice, and the store would be run by the managers as they were salary and would affect the overhead and labor percentages. I later found out some of my other co-workers were allowed to come in work, but of course, these were the “favorites.”
That was the first strike
Well, shortly after, everything opened back up i had reached my 1 year anniversary amd was informed that I did not qualify for benefits as I did not work for 3 months out of that year, but they would see what they could do. Nothing ever came of it.
Second strike
But here is the straw that broke the camels back.
An employee who worked the AM dish/maintenance had quit; he was working 2 five hour shifts in the mornings. I had asked to pick up the shifts and work 2 ten hour shifts a week.
“Sorry, Op, we have other employees that need to eat.”
Nah I'm not playing this
So, a couple of weeks later, I was confirmed for a new job with better pay, hours, and benefits
“Here's my 2-week notice.”
“What!?! Why are you leaving?”
“Well, I asked if I could pick up these 2 five hour shifts and i was told without hesitation, you have employees that need to eat employees that , and I'm pretty hungry, and $200 a week isnt cutting it, so I'm going to eat.”
“Cracker barrel, we're like a family.”
But family is the one that hurts you the most.
