“we have your tax information so you dont have to sign a W2” reason for worry?

i just got a job at a mom and pop shop, im really enjoying it, but im worried if im going to have to pay taxes on my checks because of how they run things there. ive only been there 2 weeks and working there is actually enjoyable to me, but behind the scenes it is going to be different than a corporate workflow. is this normal? how screwed over can i get? i get paid tomorrow and need advice on if anything should be done or if im in the clear. at my old job i had something similar, i was given an independent contractor form W-4 for what should be W-2 work, so im reluctant to see this “dont need to file anything” at my new job as a good thing, since from that last job i had to pay taxes on my pay from what should have…

at my old job i had something similar, i was given an independent contractor form W-4 for what should be W-2 work, so im reluctant to see this “dont need to file anything” at my new job as a good thing, since from that last job i had to pay taxes on my pay from what should have already been handled by my boss.

(edited clarity of which jobs i was referring to for which form. current job: no form to sign. old job: W-4 instead of W-2, had to pay taxes)
