Weird question, but do you actually work 37.5 or 40 hours? (Do you include lunch breaks in your schedule?)

Just something that I was wondering about. A few jobs that I had was 40 hours, but included in that 40 hours was lunch. So I was actually on the clock for 37.5 hours or I didn't have to clock out for lunch. In my current job, I'm at the work site for 9 total hours because it includes my 8 hours a day and an 1-hour break. I was just thinking about it when considering how much time I spend at work. I stayed after work to finish a project since I could work uninterrupted. I wanted to stay because I thought I was making time up, since I left early last week. There was some misunderstanding and I couldn't make up those hours any longer. Even though our pay period is 2 weeks long, I could only make up time during the same week. My manager asked me…

I was just thinking about it when considering how much time I spend at work. I stayed after work to finish a project since I could work uninterrupted.
