Went from a livable wage to resigning in less than a month

Highlight reel- Accepted a role with a small business about 3 years ago with a badass team, awesome clients, and work that I genuinely enjoyed doing! Early on, I discovered some expenses that were unnecessary and thought it was addressed after speaking with the owner. ***Fast Forward 2 years*** “I forgot to cancel that.” , “It's on my list to discuss the contract” , “I invested an obscene amount of money with this company because their social media services will get us more business” Meeting in June 2022: Just kidding, [OWNER] was relying on a loan to cover payroll that fell through at the last minute so [OWNER] laid off a department lead, put another department lead to part time, your salary is being cut by 70% effective next pay period, but other departments are staying at the same pay rate. Meeting in June 2022: Just kidding, [OWNER] was relying on a loan to cover payroll that fell through at the last minute so [OWNER] laid off a department lead, put another department lead to part time, your salary is being cut by 70% effective next pay period, but other departments are staying at the same pay rate. BUT WE'RE A FAMILY HERE! ***Knowing I'm a single mom who just signed a new lease on an apartment that is stupid expensive in the city I live in and just had major surgery a few weeks before*** Me- This information would have been wildly more helpful A MONTH AGO!

-One month later after meeting the goals set in previous meeting-

We have to eliminate your salary so moving forward you will be 100% commission as a full time worker, but you'll still be a W2 employee and we'll cover your benefits.

HARD PASS! I gave my notice of resignation. Hindsight is a monster, I should have done this a long time ago. Small business owners… please, I beg you, do better! People don't leave companies, they leave toxic environments.
