Went to a Dollar Tree in RVA over the weekend and BOY was there tea!

So on Sunday, I working InstaCart so I could pay off my car insurance and the first two order I did were at two different Dollar Trees. First one was fast. Cool! Then I drove to the second one….it started when I got out of my car and the staff members outside the door was letting people know that “my coworker is still walking to work and she is the only one with a key to the store so it may be about a 30 minute wait.” I just went back to my car, contemplated cancelling the order and thought, “Jesus christ its freezing, does this company not even pay enough for bus fares? That fucking sucks!” Thankfully like 5 minutes later, the woman, who i presumed was a manager, arrived in someone’s car and the store opened up. So on Sunday, I working InstaCart so I could pay off my car insurance and the first two order I did were at two different Dollar Trees. First one was fast. Cool!

Then I drove to the second one….it started when I got out of my car and the staff members outside the door was letting people know that “my coworker is still walking to work and she is the only one with a key to the store so it may be about a 30 minute wait.”

I just went back to my car, contemplated cancelling the order and thought, “Jesus christ its freezing, does this company not even pay enough for bus fares? That fucking sucks!”

Thankfully like 5 minutes later, the woman, who i presumed was a manager, arrived in someone’s car and the store opened up. The worker outside was super young and kept apologizing for the wait and let us know all of the registers would be credit card only. That’s odd, but I’m an Instacart shopper so fuck it, im using my card anyways.

Then, as I’m getting some balloons a customer ordered, the “manager” comes out of her office and yells to the other worker that someone is taking money from their till.

I worked quite a bit of retail in my day, but while I’ve heard of money being miscounted, I have never experienced the anxiety of someone straight up stealing from the til.

Turns out, the manager was not a manager, but just who was left because all the store’s managers had just quit. The only staff members that were a part of the store were the ‘temporary manager’, the young girl, another young man who was to be promoted to ASM and two others who were training from the temp, who were probably the culprits because she had been the one training them on the till.

Of course when I’m done shopping, my nosy ass asked more questions about the place to the workers at the register, all while saying what a great job they were all doing given the circumstances, and the all said they were looking for jobs and would leave immediately after they got a new offer, that almost all of their staff quit due to the bullshit wages and that they were just 10000% done with Dollar tree.

Lo and Behold, this has been happening and almost every damn Dollar Tree in the city of Richmond.

Has anyone else has experiences similar to theirs working at DT. I couldn’t help but feel awful for them. Literally fuck retail
