“We’re like Family!” “Retreat!”

I used to work at this unbelievable law firm in Oklahoma that recently took staff for Administrative Professional's Week to a “retreat” to their OKC office location from Tulsa. Now at least 3 of them have COVID and the office is shut down for a week – except the support staff have to show up. The ones who make the least money and won't hurt the firm as much if they get sick and/or die. It's almost a 2 hour drive one way from Tulsa to OKC on a bus, by the way. So, that retreat was a 12-14 day on a FRIDAY, and it was about “how we can better serve our clients and be more white glove service with clients” (emphasis on the white part because Oklahoma and the board of directors is either or almost 100% white and 75% white men). You know, a meeting they could've done at their Tulsa location for much less time and cheaper…this is what I don't understand – why they don't spend that extra money on their support staff? They could've given the cost of that trip as a wage increase (even though small) to their staff! Happy Admin Professionals Week, guys, gals and NBs! Here's a slight increase in wages! Especially since their PPP loan for 2.6 mil was forgiven.

I hope more of them leave. It's so much happier not being exploited for low wages and being treated like an adult.

Seriously, what retreat puts you in meetings all day long and makes you go 2 hours one way for it and making you work at least a 12 hour day on a Friday? Just wow.
