Exempt employees can essentially be expected to be on call all of the time. No boundary between work and home anymore and all employees have the tech to be reliably connected all of the time.
Plus it's easier for bosses to fail to have empathy for people whom they've never met in person. You become a disposable robot behind a screen, to be outsourced whenever the whim hits your boss.
Long-term, this won't be the good kind of work-from-a-beach-in-Tahiti WFH. This will be the dystopian future. Social isolation. De-urbanization. Outsourcing. Cameras in your home office watched by your bosses. Dirty cars replacing cleaner public transport. I prefer the office, since at least I can leave work at the office and not be expected to be fully “on and ready” once I leave.
