what am I supposed to say when they ask my salary expectations?

I'm applying for jobs all over. For the position I'm looking for, people make anywhere between $50k+$85k/year on average. Obviously I want to get the better deal. But I'm also a fresh college graduate with relevant experience in the field. My last internship paid me the equivalent of $55k/yr, but whenever hiring managers ask me what I made at my previous job, I tell them I made $65k because A.) they're not going to figure out and B.) I know they're tryna low-ball me already. I'm just playing the game. A lot of applications will ask me what my salary expectations are. I've just been putting, “negotiable”. Is this a bad idea? What should I put? I'm worried about asking for more and being turned down from even being interviewed when I'm okay with getting a little lower than what I'm asking.
