What do rich people mean when they call someone “people at the bottom of the social ladder”?

Literally, as the title says, I hear countless times rich people say someone is the people “at the bottom of society”, so they don't deserve a good life and better pay. Like when I say, people who work at McDonald's deserve more than 11 dollars an hour, they say:” These people are at the bottom of society; they don't deserve a better life because they either don't study hard or work hard.” I worked at a tea shop for a while before; it disgusted me to think someone I served to is thinking that I'm the “low-end.” so I deserved the minimum wage. I just don't get the term “bottom of society,” like, if there aren't people working eight hours a day making your stupid tea or coffee and burger, what do you eat? Like are you gonna make it yourself or what? How can people just look down on…

How can people just look down on another living human being for what kind of job they are doing? That's just sick.
