Besides not applying. I’ve started looking again and it seems like 80 or 90% of jobs don’t advertise salary.
Do you send an email asking what the range is before applying? Do you take the time it takes to put together your application and then ask if they want to interview? Or do you get to the interview stage with absolutely no discussion of even a salary range?
I did one application over a year ago where I had to do a phone interview, then drive 30 mins to do an in person interview, which also came with a skill test, and It ended up going for about 90 minutes, and towards the end the subject of salary came up and I basically gave a very reasonable figure that is in line with the industry and my skill set, maybe even a touch lower, and I was completely lowballed.
I don’t understand why employers waste their time and ours by not even giving an indication to salary range. They will write their job posting with every single thing their ideal candidate can do, how passionate they should be, how self motivated they should be, all the tasks they will need to do, but not even a hint of the salary range for the compensation they will receive for their time and work. What a joke.
So what’s your process for applying to places that don’t disclose a salary range?
