Back in Summer 2021 I was given the position of “Operations Manager”. The role is to schedule jobs, manage the employees, do the installs, and coordinate everything related to storage. Came with a pay raise of $52k a year which for me is the most I've ever made.
In 2022 I'm still in the same position, but it changed in such a way due to a lack of job outline. Not only do I do the installs, but I had no choice but to take on the responsibility of coordinating our new closet line and those installs, plus coordinating all the laying down of our floor coatings, managing the warehouse and inventory, planning around every little issue that crops up, managing the employees, training employees, keeping on top of orders as they come in; when they ship. Just an endless number of things.
This position is part administrative, part labor, but still the work of at least 4 people rolled into 1. I pushed to my boss about ending my responsibility on our floor coatings because coordinating between 4-6 of these a week requires a lot of time. He hired a guy on who now does those and what a relief it was. But the issue remains, I don't have the time for it all.
My boss's reaction is so glib. “I don't need you at the office for 40 hours a week.” That's not even what I'm asking. I need to be around for a couple days a week, but he seems to think that's unnecessary. And to top off the crap cake, one guy on my “team” is so slow and seemingly incompetent it slows the other guys down and delays progress. And yet, he really doesn't do anything.
I suspect I should find a new job, yet I'm curious what the community thinks.
