What is usually shown/ disclosed during a pre employment screening?

So I am employed in the state of Texas. I am confused on what is shown/disclosed on a pre employment screening. I have heard that it shows: Start date – End Date of employment, and base salary. I’ve also heard that it can show the reason why you are not at that job anymore i.e fired. I also heard that if the potential employer calls to do a reference check they can ask if the employee is hire-able or not. I know that some HR departments don’t want to disclose much stuff just so they aren’t open to getting sued.
