So I was talking to someone the other day and I forgot how the conversation started. But it was another no one wants to work or whatever. I brought up the free market argument.
If you can't get workers then you need to
- Check how you are advertising you need workers
- You need to adjust pay and/or benefits to get a bigger pool of people that will want to work
- You need to lower the requirements to get a bigger pool of people
Basically, it's a trade. The worker is trading their time, energy, skill, etc for money and/or benefits. If workers want too much, then they won't find companies that will hire them. If companies don't want to give as much, then they won't get the workers. If the deal is completely bad for the worker, then they won't even try because there is no point.
I said, keep in mind most of these places do not have min hours, which means they have to have several jobs to get the needed hours/pay to just live.
They went off on how people didn't even try to do better, how they could've went to school, trained for something better, and so on. Note we were talking about McD people not being able to afford to live.
I flat out asked if someone working at a fast food place flipping burgers for 40 hours, should they be able to afford the basics and then some. They flat out said no because the person needs to do better for themselves.
What do you do with someone like this? Like to me, it seems like some people are OK with slavery but more steps.
