Was hired on at this company mid 2022 and things overall were going pretty well. My coworkers were nice, the workload was more reasonable and I thought I found a nice place to stay. But my boss, she was toxic and dismissive from nearly the beginning. Based on previous experiences with bosses like this, I documented things here and there. I keep my documentation to facts from email conversations and try to avoid speculation or feelings. I didnt think much of it at the time but if nothing else I could have it if the time came, plus it relieved stress writing it down. I also have a coworker who was hired on shortly after me who I soon found out was going through this exact experience as me, but I would say worse. She also documented interactions with my boss where she was being toxic, making false accusations etc.
So, I have a toxic boss which sucks but at least Im getting the job done and she'll leave me alone right? Wrong. She blind sides me with a written warning citing things that I later dispute with the documentation Ive been collecting. People are going to have mixed opinions here, but just like she went to HR with my warning, so did my documentation along with my coworkerss who backed up my story.
Since the warning, besides my boss being her normal self, not much happens on the homefront except the fact that my documentation triples in size from the original 10 pages I sent to 30 pages. I asked the HR contact that I sent these to if she found any merit in what I sent. She said yes and thought my boss was acting inappropriate. This whole time, I'm the only one who got a written warning despite my boss saying everyone on my team does the things she claimed I did. Now, I'm not looking for my coworker to get written up, Im just looking for consistency. If she wouldn't write them up to begin with then why me?
The reason my coworker above and myself were hired is because she said during the interview that everyone on her team quit in about a month period, About 4 people all quit in a month for the same boss. That probably should have been a red flag. My coworker said her spiel was different and that “nobody wanted to work.”
At this point I don't really know what to do. I feel like nothing positive is going to come out of this. I don't think my boss knows about the document yet but she will soon and then things will get worse quickly. Even though shes gone through a handful of new hires costing the company an enormous amount of money, again, I feel like nothing will happen.
So what should I do? Im not going to quit. Theres no final outcome yet, but any help navigating this would be appreciated. Thanks.
