What’s the best way I can explain to my boss why people aren’t showing up for their interviews?

Fortunately, he isn't blaming it on millennials or laziness. But I'm kinda inclined to agree slightly when he points out that it is a bit rude. At the end of the day we're setting out time away and wasting 10-15 minutes when people no show. It's worth noting we get candidates from 3rd party agencies, and it's also making them look/feel bad that they can't send us candidates that actually show up. My guess is that we just aren't competitive enough after “the thing”. I don't know how much detail to go into, but the salary is pretty competitive, and it's only a 2 step interview process which is explained to candidates. Step 1 is virtually with HR, this is the role, this is the company, this is your pay. Then the next step is in person to meet the boss. This whole process took me 4 working days, and…

This whole process took me 4 working days, and I was starting within 8 working days of applying for the job. This is an office “finance” job in a large financial hub in the UK.

BUT, people just don't show up to step 2, don't warn us, don't answer their phone if we or the recruiters call, and it's starting to confuse us all. Don't get me wrong, no company is perfect, and there's a lot of competition. Any insights gang?

Edit : Removed a comment about Maccies, and to add that the company as a whole has great retention. We only lost our 4th team member because they wanted to go travelling (now that you can do that kinda).
