What’s the point in working if I’ll never afford a house?

Basically the title. I grew up poor enough that I'm very apprehensive about spending except on necessities, I still live with my parents in a rental property, so while I do pay board, it's much less than if I lived by myself – So I've managed to save up a reasonable amount of money since I started working. But what's the point? In my area, a deposit on a house has gone up more than I've managed to save in that time. And if I don't spend my money then it's just a number on a computer screen. I'm strongly considering quitting my job and using my savings to buy a few years of my life back. Maybe go on the benefit and make it permanent – I was far happier unemployed anyway.
