I am a 54. I have worked my ass off since I was 16. I have almost always worked every minute of overtime I could get or worked 2 full time jobs. I am working a job right now with a actually really good company. You, as an employee are seen and heard, they actually treat you like a human. But, I am wanting to enjoy the holidays instead of working. I just found out that because I work NOC shift I am expected to cover any holidays that fall on what would be a regularly scheduled day for me. I work M-F. This means that unless the holiday falls on a weekend that I am not working I will, if I'm lucky, get Christmas or New year's day off every few years. This makes me mad because 1. I am the only night person for my area, 2. When the holiday falls on a Friday I end up having to cover on-call from Thurs 5 pm to Mon 830 am. I get my regular pay for Thurs-fri, a stipend for the weekend, pay jumps to time and a half if I get called out, but still. It's not fair the everyone else gets an additional 40 hrs a year where not only do they get 8 hrs holiday pay but they also get 8 hrs off. Part of me says I shouldn't complain because I literally make over 100k a year to keep my ass home. I often have weeks where I literally only have to actually work 4 hrs.The pay is decent, I get 36 an hr for 40 hrs a week, an additional $350 a week for on call stipend, if I go out during the on call hours pay immediately becomes time and a half, if a call keeps me out past 8 am I go to double time. But still having to work every holiday means I have to burn my vacation time in order to have a 3 day weekend. Everyone else gets the time off. Plus everyone else only works 8 hrs a day, I am tied to my area 15 hours a day. Like I want to go on actual trips too!
