When the hell did employers expect entry level workers to be experts?

I just got hired for an IT position. It's entry level and I have no experience in this but showed a willingness to learn and take the job serous. But holy fuck did the interviewer make it clear he wants me to study on my off time, asked if i feel like i can really learn fast and grasp the material sooner rather than later, and over time will be required from time to time, and do i have clean DMV record and also- Hey asshole, this job pays two bucks above minimum wage. I will try hard and learn as much as i can, but this is not a $50 million dollar contract to play in the Pro Leagues. Businesses just see you as a tool that needs to learn fast, shut up, and accept your poverty wage
