Hey all, I wanted to ask for some advice as to what others would do in this situation: I am a student attending a university in California, through which I was just “hired” by one of my professors to run social emotional support groups at a local elementary school (I’m an aspiring school psychologist). Although he is in charge of the project, I will be getting paid by the school district that the elementary school resides in. There were initially going to be 2 different schools involved, I was to run groups at one while a colleague was going to run them at the other, and we were told that we would each earn roughly $10,000 throughout the course of the school year. This was our first mistake, we never got this in writing. Then, one of the schools decided that they were no longer going to participate in the program, which means that the funding provided from that school would no longer be available to pay for our groups. Both myself and my colleague are now at a single school, that does not want to pay us $10,000 each, and is instead offering us $7,500 each. At this point, I don’t believe that anyone is legally responsible for footing the bill, but wtf should I do? I reached out to my professor and he said that we would talk to the school, but I doubt anything is going to come of it. Reddit is insanely laggy so if you have any further questions please ask.
