Why am I so invaluable to my company?

I’ve been here for a year, saw a 2% raise after 6 months, and just found out the previous person in my position was making 30% more than me. Even with a few years of experience, I won’t even be sniffing that salary here. I work outside year-round. Why do companies hate paying people who do manual labor to improve the aesthetic of their campus? $37k is a respectable wage, if I’m on a set schedule and aren’t subject to brutal conditions. I’m at a point where I don’t like my job, dread it actually. I’d rather make slightly less at my previous job as a seasonal employee and have winters off and every other weekend free. TL;DR My job makes me feel worthless and I can’t wait to quit.
