Luckily, I am no longer in this job, but my last job changed my title and description on day 1. I applied for a certain job that was geared towards advising customers (It was called “Customer Advisor”) who wanted to place large orders and then working with the vendor to help finalize the orders. It seemed like sweet gig and no where in the interviews or description did it say customer service. (I even asked since other ‘advising’ jobs are just customer service)
My first day I was told that they train every employee on the phones to help the employees learn more about the company from a unique perspective/ how to talk on the phone. Immediately, I knew this was a red flag and that I was tricked throughout the interview process. The next day, my job title on my account showed “Customer Service Rep” and my description reflected that. Three weeks later, I’m on the phones for 8 hours a day getting yelled at and treated in ways I wouldn’t wish on anybody.
I asked several people above me why it was changed and the best answer I got was “we are short right now and need reps, it will change back in the next few weeks.” I ended up doing that for about 5 months before I finally got another job. Why can a company change all of that without notice? Has anyone ever had this happen before?
I called Dept of Labor and they said it’s not illegal as long as my pay wasn’t changed.
Edit: I’m American
