Why are companies allowed to do this

Companies and fields that require people to stand for gruelingly long hours should have some protocol in place that allows their employees to sit, goddammit. Regardless if the employee is disabled or not. I worked retail for over a year at 5 different places and of course that means standing for crazy amounts of time with no food or water and maybe a 30 minute break (there’s no law in my state that says adults HAVE to have breaks, that law only exists for minors.) as a result of the things I just mentioned I now am missing discs in my back and have arthritis in my early 20s. I now can’t work the majority of jobs that are available due to that fact. Yay.
