Why are standards so low for what people consider a good boss?

So I work a job that requires travel, and we sometimes do rosters in advance. I received a roster on the third that showed me going away on a trip this Sunday, the 14th. Bit shit because I also only get back from a trip on the 12th, but whatever. Then on the fifth I receive a work plan for the week of the 8th-14th, which shows both the 13th and 14th as days off. Cool, maybe the plan has changed, as it can often do. Then on the 9th I receive an updated plan for the week that also shows the 13th and 14th off. At this point I'm convinced the plan has changed and make weekend plans accordingly. Cool, maybe the plan has changed, as it can often do. Then on the 9th I receive an updated plan for the week that also shows the 13th and 14th off. At this point I'm convinced the plan has changed and make weekend plans accordingly. Then yesterday, on the 12th, I get an email (at a time that would have been after hours if I hadn't been doing overtime) with the plan for the next trip, that showed me leaving on the 14th. So at this point I email the boss that I can't do it because I've made plans, apologise for that (which frankly I shouldn't need to but you know what bosses can be like) and say I can head out Monday. I also attach a screenshot of my last roster to back up my statement about believing that I was rostered off. The boss emails back and says all good, we've moved the accommodation booking, head out on Monday. Which is fine, no problems from me on that front. But I was chatting to another worker about it and he was talking about how this guy is such a great boss for doing this, and I'm so lucky he changed the plans for me, blah blah blah. What the fuck? This isn't him changing the plans for me, this is him following the last two plans I received, which I have then scheduled the rest of my life around. Admittedly the initial plan was to work the 14th, but it wasn't my error that was the cause of the mix up. I really don't see how this is an amazing move by the boss, I see this as the bare minimum – honouring the schedule that you put out, that your worker has then made plans in accordance with. And yet this other guy thinks it's so good. When the hell did we get so beaten down that just doing the right thing makes you a fantastic boss?
