why aren’t we talking about universal basic income anymore?

Isn't this the goal of a society? Since eventually most manufacturing jobs will become obsolete, we have to ensure some form of income to people unable to find jobs. Now, I'm not advocating being lazy. I personally have a high paying job I wouldn't quit regardless of the existence of UBI. The question here is at what point do we guarantee the human right to live within the constructs of a money based society when companies are constantly buying new technologies to remove the need for humans in their companies? Isn't this the goal of a society? Since eventually most manufacturing jobs will become obsolete, we have to ensure some form of income to people unable to find jobs.

Now, I'm not advocating being lazy. I personally have a high paying job I wouldn't quit regardless of the existence of UBI. The question here is at what point do we guarantee the human right to live within the constructs of a money based society when companies are constantly buying new technologies to remove the need for humans in their companies?

My own industry (casino) has cut its workforce by 40% over the past 20 years, and it's constantly trying to implement new things to lessen the need for humans.

Floor personnel that used to give change have been replaced by kiosks.
Slot attendants don't have to fill machines with coins anymore since it's all done with tickets now. Now instead of needing an attendant for every 100 machines, they have 1 for every 500. Wiped out 80% of the department.
The cage used to be full of cashiers, now they only need a few to change chips from table games.

And now companies are coming out with technology to try to take away table games dealers, one of the highest paying jobs in the casino industry. Blackjack and pai gow on a slot machine. Electronic craps tables that only require 1 dealer instead of three. Roulette machines played without dealers. Even poker tables without dealers or cards. Just an electronic table they all sit around and play poker on screens.

At what point have we taken all the jobs away from everyone and there's no more work at all? Where do we get the money from? Print more? Tax the wealthy? Create a lottery to see who gets to eat this week?

Capitalism will not be sustainable much longer.
