Why ask for my availability if you won’t consider it????

I’ve been applying for jobs for the past month, and on Monday, I had a promising video-interview for a position near me. Yesterday, I was asked for my availability to come in for an in-person interview. I let the recruiter know that I was out of town until next Wednesday (more information than they deserve, IMO) and that I would be happy to come in Wednesday or after. The recruiter responded back asking me to come in earlier next week because they’re trying to fill the position ASAP (They suggested I come in Tuesday). I just don’t understand why they would ask for my availability and then deliberately ignore what I tell them. Do they honestly expect me to cut my trip short just to help speed up their hiring process by one day?
