I’ve had countless situations at my job – including one today where I’ve had to baby a boomer colleague (whom I know makes at least double what I’m making) who doesn’t know how to use basic functions of google or Zoom and has difficulties even sending emails. I must note that I’m not IT and it’s not my job to do this but we often run into issues which are glaringly caused by the Incompetence of one of the ‘leaders’/ managers in the company. I usually help them because it’s easier to do that than watch the blind leading the blind.
Basic things that us younger generations are expected to know even going into ‘entry level’ positions, Boomers get away with not knowing. Not only do they not know, they are bitter about learning and always blame things on the software, application or computer and not themselves.
They seem to think that they bring so much value to the company ‘in other areas which you younger people can’t.’ – as I’ve heard from a few of them. But I’ve yet to see what that value is especially given that the money flows up to them and not to us ‘youngsters’ who often have way more education and bring more to the table.
Edit: I might need to say the obvious: this is a generalization and does not represent every boomer. But it seems to be a common occurrence in the workplace which to me is unfair.
