Why do employers care how many hours you work?

This is centered around jobs like the one I have where I'm paid based on output. Thing is…if I'm above the hourly minimum… why can't I stay at that level and work less hours with more time for my family instead of money money money? Example to explain. To be employed I must produce 10 units per hour. I can produce 15 per hour. Why can't I then work ~27 hrs a week instead of 40? Pay and production are the same in both scenarios. If I am comfortable at that wage and meet all basic requirements… why does it matter that my goal in life isn't to work more and make more money? I just don't see why the company cares. They're okay with paying someone $30k a year for 10 units an hr for 40 hrs a week, but not $30k for 15 units an hr for 27…
