I'm pretty active on LinkedIn–mainly for my career networking–but what I hate about it more than anything is the sheer amount of insufferable privilege. It's the inane advice about “hard work” and “vision” from people whose worst struggle is with the bathroom stall door after eating too much.
These are people that think that being left out of a group in high school that one time gives them an anxiety disorder or insecurity issues. NO THE FUCK IT DOESN'T. STFU! There are people with real problems in the world.
These same fucks then say things like, “You should take time to travel more,” or, “Start a business.”
BITCH! It's a lot easier to do when you have the privilege to go to an elite school, get into Investment Banking or Private Equity, and then get offered a role to found a company with funding by your daddy's golf buddies.
I did “bootstrap” and I did manage to climb from being a “peasant” to being a “knight” in the new feudal order. And with each level I climb, I find that I have less and less in common with my new peers.
Which tells me one thing: people that get to certain levels in their career didn't do so from being smart or talented or working hard. They did it because of subtle social class signals that conferred advantages.
These people are fucking soft. They wouldn't stand up to actual hardship in the world.
They're idea of hunger is, “I didn't want to eat what I had in my fridge, so I'm going to order out but had to wait a FULL HOUR!” Motherfucker, when you to go to your fridge and you have mustard, ketchup, and jar of pickles with $1.50 to your name to get you through next week, then talk.
I loathe these people. They're not even good at what they do!
