why I quit my job at mcdonalds a few years back

So I worked at mcdonalds for roughly 5 years to gain a bit of money while doing school/uni at the time and finally decided to call it quits due to BS management and poor systems in check for employees. So a during my second year of working for them, I had a 2nd assistant manager (2nd from the top essentially) approach me and recommend that I apply for a promotion. Initially I was a bit shocked but took up the offer and went about applying etc. I was then asked to write a cover letter as to why I'd be a good fit for the promotion (something they've never implemented before). To which my response was “I was approached by a 2nd assistant, that should be enough reason”. They refused that answer so i just left it as it is. So a year and a bit fly by and I…

So a year and a bit fly by and I get approached yet again for the same position to which I reluctantly accepted to apply for again. They didn't ask for the cover letter which was a relief but they didn't have any application forms yet so I was told to wait until my next shift.

Next shift comes by and nothing has been said to me about the application form or the promotion. So I enquired about it to which I was met with the o'l “oh silly me, I forgot but ill bring it next time”. Not surprisingly “next time” never came and they had the audacity to push the blame on me saying I needed to chase them up on it even though they approached me about the promotion. If I'd approached them then yeah, thats on me to chase them.

So after 5 years I finally decided to quit to pursue better jobs and at this point, the restaurant is going downhill thanks to the many controversies occurring causing high staff turnover and people seeing through their bs. It was safe to assume they were desperate to keep trained staff as they were losing more than they could train up.

A week before my 2 weeks notice was due to end, I had a different manager approach me and say “if you stay you can have a managerial position.” And I couldn't do much but laugh and tell them how it's a bit too late for that.

TL;DR – worked at mcdonalds for 5 years and got offered a promotion a couple of times and got rejected due to the fault of the restaurant. Was offered a promotion to a managerial position during my last week and turned it down.
