Why in the USA are workers against unions?

When I hear that in the United States if you get fired you only get paid for 15 days of work, you don't have paid vacations or you can't sue your employer for fear of being fired and because you can't afford a lawyer, I wonder why they don't support the power that gives a union? Do you have an anecdote of a problem you had at work that the union could have helped you with?
