I applied for a sous chef position at my college that I didn't get. A higher up that wants to help me move up suggested I take up a line cook position that pays the same as my current role. My current role is almost stress free while line cooking it incredibly stressful. I told him it pays the same and he said he wants to help people move where they want to go and not just in it for the money. Its ridiculous. The whole reason people work is for money to pay bills.
And another thing is benefits such as weekends off and paid vacations. The place I work at provides these benefits however I want to join apprenticeships or entry level trades positions at my company. They are incredibly rare. If I look elsewhere other companies will likely work me six days a week and just give minimal benefits. My current work situation is like a gilded cage because its easy, I get what I want, however I need more money and to gain more skills.
