Why is the argument always about taxes?

Conservative want less taxes while liberals want more taxes. Neither one increases your financial wellbeing. Either the billionaires get more money or they have to share some of it with the government. The argument should be about increasing wages across the board and forcing companies to devote a higher percentage of their profits to paying employees. There needs to be something more robust than a minimum wage in order to fix income inequality.
