Why should this person keep working after they hit their yearly quota?

So I work in Business Development and our Sales Directors just need to make a yearly quota to keep their jobs. A few of them have, but at our first monthly overview they asked why they should keep working? My response in front of our 20 person team “their commission % goes higher so they get paid more” My manager “Well they do have accelerators in their contracts, but it’s really because we have open positions that we accounted for in our yearly sales goals that they need to make up for” Bruh carrying the team is not a requirement for their job so why would that be a factor in their decision?
