Why you still have to work as much as you had to work in the past (or more) just to survive, despite all our current technology?

Please explain like im five lol. I'm actually wondering if people worked more or less in early villages and societies, than now. All I know is that about 70% of people worked with food, farms and animals back then. Now its about 3-5% of population. I don't wanna complain but I really hate work, to the point where if I had an optional choice to be born, knowing that ill have to work all my life, I probably wouldn't choose it.

And I don't dislike life other than the part about working, too bad you have to work all your life and yes I do count school as work and while school is 'optional' with most parents its not.
