I start tomorrow as a host at a new branch so I was reading about some experiences. Came across an eerie post talking about surveyors being paid to observe the servers' dancing. I also read they make servers dance for 5 mins out of every 20 (wtf)
Only reason I'm taking this job is cuz it's like 4min from my house so very convenient/flexible which makes room for my other hustles and plus it'll help me socialize. The hiring process was very friendly, although a bit infantilizing (until opening day, we were required to “check in” every week where they would give us updates and gift us things like candy and goldfish.) At an introductory parking lot “cookout,” they taught us the line dancing but thankfully half of us stood on the sidelines watching. Then there was some raffle so you get a chance to win a branded beer cozy or a hat. Additionally, there were some corn hole and mini golf games.
It's honestly kind of admirable how much effort they put into these frilly things; instead of like, idk paying us more? I'm not even sure how much I'll be making as a host as it's not transparent at all and depends on the tip share. But if they're trying to attract a younger crowd that won't care about those things as much, I guess that's their strategy.
Anyone else work at a Texas Roadhouse and feel like you're in elementary school again? I never enjoyed being forced to dance in gym, so I don't think it'll make me “love my job” now lol
Luckily, my shirt doesn't have that slogan. Did they get rid of it?
