This happened a few years ago when i was very new to the job market(18) and didn’t really have anyone to get advice from when choosing jobs. I applied to this company in central FL that entails us walking around gas stations at club stores like Sam’s and Costco and pretty much harassing people in to letting us inspect their windshields and ask them about their insurance policy so we can set up a repair/replacement that’s free to them if they have full coverage/comprehensive, which in turn gives a hefty kickback to us.
They told me how awesome and good paying this job is and getting 5 sales(replacements) is easily a $1000 check and repairs are paid cash as we do them on site.
Anyhow, I made my “sales” and was loving it despite being told to fuck off here and there by the rightfully annoyed people fueling up.
Moving a week forward; I got my check. It was $60. No one had an explanation other than to “keep on keeping on”.
Luckily I appeared as a responsible person to them, and they trusted me to keep the big tent, folding tables, banners, huge tool box with lots of expensive tools and windshield chip repair tools in my car. I went to the job site, set up for a few hours while applying to other jobs, left and stole all of their equipment. I also blocked all of their numbers.
This was a very low point in my life and having a $380 car payment, $290 insurance payment and no one to rely on wasn’t helping.
EDIT: they were also in a fraud dispute with geico for $144k in fraudulent claims https://www.autobodynews.com/index.php/southeastern/item/19211-geico-seeks-more-than-144-000-through-lawsuit-in-florida-s-middle-district.html
