Antiwork

With the skyrocketing rent, telling people to “work harder” and get a better position is BS.

Like, even in the academic community. Those who are lucky have a salary of 40k, are still an accident away from becoming homeless. Hell, even if everyone worked their ass off, there are still only a handful of “upper level” spots with hundreds of applicants. Now; let’s say you are one of these applicants. Teetering on the edge before the pandemic, you likely NEED that position now to make rent. If you do not get that position: homeless. If you do get the postition: your closest competitor is now homeless. Regardless of how hard everyone works, the number of jobs that will prevent homelessness remain the same. The number of people who will become homeless remains constant. Working harder MAY prevent that for an individual. But the current economic structure guarantees that there will be people booted out of their homes.
