So yesterday there was a post on here about an employer threatening to withhold tips if the employee didnt unplug the machine during cleaning.
I think we can all agree they've gone about it the wrong way but the sign (especially after being posted here) has highlighted the significance of isolating dangerous machines.
Id just like to make a point as obviously the employer in the post has no LOTO policy for their dough mixing machines.
If you are working with dangerous machines even if you are just cleaning them then you should have a LOTO procedure. If your employer doesn't have one then make them aware of it. It shouldn't be too difficult for them to implement and its a lot safer than simply having a sign saying “ill withhold tips if you dont unplug the machine”
If an employer makes you do something you think is unsafe then don't feel pressured to do it. Its better walk away safely.
I hope if anything yesterday's post has made people aware of this shit and to take it seriously.
