Won’t hire more people and want me to work my day off? Good luck with that!

Names changed. First post. On mobile so sorry. TLDR at bottom. Info: So back in July my office hired a new doctor for 2 days a week. Each doctor has 2 dedicated assistants and is supposed to have 1 floater to do evaluations, help with room turnover, and so we can take lunch. Monday and Tuesday only 2 doctors work. Those days I float one day, Ann floats the other, and Liz floats 10-3 to cover lunches. If the schedule is packed we will all 3 float. Wednesday and Thursday (for about 6 months now) Ann has been the only floater that day between the 3 doctors as Liz and I are the new doctors main assistants. The 2 other doctors refuse to lighten their schedule. One girl even had to move her sons surgery (non emergency but still) a few months ago because multiple people were out but the…

One girl even had to move her sons surgery (non emergency but still) a few months ago because multiple people were out but the doctor refused to have less patients that day. We did have a second floater for a few weeks but she quit (The short version is she couldn’t cut it as a main assistant so they wanted to switch her to floater for the doctor she wanted to work for after complaining about her current doctor. This would not change pay or anything and would actually be easier but she threw a fit and quit.) On to the story.

So last week, Brenda (the manager) told me that Eva was probably going to quit due to no longer having child care and some personal life issues so until they could get a new assistant I would be working with the other doctor (he’s picky and only lets me, Pam, and Eva do treatment with him) and Ann would be working with my doctor. There will be no floater on Wednesdays and Thursdays until someone is hired. I have told Brenda multiple times before this that one more person is not enough and we need 2 more (now 3) for those days. Brenda originally refused to hire someone back in July but after seeing things quickly fall apart she changed her tune. She has since been trying to get us someone but the doctors refuse to let her. It’s an ongoing struggle. Last week, Liz had a very important doctor apt on Tuesday so I moved all my appointments to today so I could work for her. This was cleared with Brenda. Then this morning I got a call from the assistant manager saying that Eva had called out and she suspected she wouldn’t be in the rest of this week as this is officially her last week and she asked if I could work. I told her of my appointments and she said okay and would see me tomorrow. A little bit after that I get a txt from Brenda asking if both me and Ann can come in today even if we are late. I have 3 cats going to the vet today at 2 vet offices at different times and then I have an Echocardiogram as I’ve been having some heart issues.

I’m not coming in. Ann isn’t responding to the message and it’s been a few hours now. The doctor will have to suck it up. Maybe now he will realize Brenda (and the rest of us) were right and hire more people. I honestly doubt it though.

TLDR. Office hires third doctor but refuses to hire more staff even after manager asks. Girl called out and it’s her last week so they are short staffed. I said no to coming in and other girl isn’t answering. Suck it up buttercup!
