As a background. I am a UK based person living on a remote island. I'm looking to relocate back to the mainland and actively applying for jobs.
A few weeks ago I met the CEO of a small company and discussed logistics with him of a job. Today I was formally offered an interview. They're insistent on interviewing me 700 miles away for an entirely work at home position in a business of about 4-5 staff.
I've explained that for me to get there, I'd be spending roughly $850-$1100 dollars, and with rail strikes it'll be about 4 days worth of travelling. The company has refused a virtual interview.
There's no way it should be considered reasonable for someone to take that much of a gamble for a job especially when the job is 100% remote. Fuck the Grind culture. Fuck companies expecting the world for a gamble.
