Work gives my shifts to someone else

I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I need some genuine advice. My work had cancelled my shift to give it to someone else which does not make sense to me. I am on a zero hour contract. Are they allowed to do that? As in, is it within the law? Edit: In the UK
