Antiwork

work in the music industry at a reputable midsize concert venue. When I accepted a tour gig offer today, GM told me my position was a “part time job that required a full time commitment”

I work an extremely random schedule that sometimes is in excess of 60+ hers a week and sometimes is 0 hrs a week. The only other jobs in my field available come up quickly and don't stay available long in a B market. I'm being asked to be “loyal” and told I can't work elsewhere for better rates even if I find someone qualified and competent to fill in (which has only come up once and I actually wasn't needed that day. It ended up being a one man call). I understand they expect to be a priority and they are, but I won't pass up more money to literally sit for 14 hrs and do absolutely nothing, I'm a parent that's an insane expectation to have of someone you claim to value. I normally work as an independent contractor and charge a day rate and a fair an affordable one at that with my experience. Guess what? this corporate live entertainment giant refuses to subcontract. I make less than $20 an hour……I have to pay to park out of pocket as well more often then not. Half an hour a day is deducted from my pay wether I take a break or don't have a chance to. non negotiable.

When I got the news about the new gig I was and am still so unbelievably grateful for the opportunity to potentially level up in a big way. It feels good to know someone believes in you enough to compensate you adequately for the sacrifices you make personally at home, with your kids, with your parents, your grandparents, wives, husbands, and all the other people you love. To the time you can't get back.

In terms of capacity the next step up from the venue in this market is roughly 18x our capacity. The next step down in capacity is more than half of ours. There are not too many local alternatives

BIG YIKES

I am hopeful that I even have a chance to possibly come out the other side of this situation with a healthy sense of self worth and legitimate professional validation for once. Not to mention a brief period of financial stability at the least.

The fact that that this post needs to be written at all is disgusting.

ESPECIALLY WITH THE CURRENT INFLATION RATE. AND STANDARD LEASE APPROVAL REQUIREMENTS

At-will state can be fired for any reason whatsoever without explanation or severance.
