I work in a recruitment agency that is extremely discriminatory , sexist, ableist individualistic and money-driven. The CEO of the company will openly say in a conference (where everyone is presence) “we hire girls because girls are easy to manage”, “girls just want to marry rich and stop working, those who don’t want to quit are just ones who want to buy more shoes and bags”, “y’all are so pretty as you, ladies should be”. It’s even worse when my female manager feels exactly the same about things
He would open reject applicants who are not “skinny” enough and even request that they wear mini-skirts to interviews
Moreover, the way people are paid here is also extremely sketchy. If recruiters don’t reach their monthly sales goal, 20% of their salary would get taken away. Even if they reach their goals, company would still find a way to take 50% of their incentives away from them. When my coworker raised questions, the accounting department simply told her that “how the company calculated her paycheck is confidential” and she should not “think so much” and work hard as if “she owned the company herself”.
Our clients are also constantly trying to lowball the candidates and forcing me to convince my candidate to accept the ridiculous number they were offered.
We were forced to come to work even during COVID when our job is more than doable at home. Our manager would constantly say “we are not as stupid as other companies which don’t allow their COVID positive employees to come to work”
As a starter in the office, my manager would constantly tell other people (in my face) to work with me because even if they close a case, all the incentives would be counted as theirs not mine. (Starters don’t get incentives)
My manager never expressed any appreciation and recognition towards me. However, when I became the only person in the team, she started treating me a lot nicer, while also passive-aggressively telling me “better not quit my job”
Every day here is like hell for me and it’s only been 5 and a half months. I’m planning to stay for another 2-3 months because this is my first job and I don’t want to look like a quitter on my resume but every day here is a torture. I can’t remember how many times I just mindlessly type “work is hell” or “I want to quit” on Google on my work computer (oh btw my computer is definitely more than 10 years old and it’s so slow it’s driving me nuts).
