I was a full time employee and gave my job a 3 week advanced notice that I will be stepping down to part time and that I can only work Mondays and Thursdays due to my unpaid apprenticeship. I was told with only 6 days to the effective date and some of those days are holidays, that this would not work and I would have to be available on Saturdays or I will have to be terminated. I have not read any policy or been shown any policy that states I would have to be available on Saturdays. I informed them that this will not work and I can only work Mondays and Thursdays. They tried to force me to sign a resignation letter to which I declined. They are now telling me to no-call/no-show three shifts in a row but that is considered voluntary job abandonment. To be eligible for unemployment I have to be unemployed through no fault of my own so I refused to do that. I know my employer is an at-will employer and they can terminate me for no reason. I have contacted HR and they even told me that this is wrong and will be escalating it to Employee relations. I have a phone call with the captain of my district tomorrow what do i do? The effective date for my availability change is supposed to be December 27th .
