Training was never explained to me as a job responsibility in this position. I am a bus driver and I drive for a disability mobility service. I took the job because I like driving, I like helping people, and because I’m working on my own all day (not working with coworkers). I enjoy this job. They bumped the pay recently and it makes it much more enjoyable.
However, I was placed on the coaching/training rotation without my consent and without being asked if it was something I was interested in. When I spoke to one of my managers to tell her that I’m not interested she basically guilted me into staying on “just for training and not coaching” (training is me driving with a new person shadowing, coaching is a newer driver driving while I supervise).
Despite that, I have had multiple days where I was surprised by coaching or training duties first thing in the morning despite having checked the list the night before. There is a monetary incentive to being a coach but I don’t care about the money. I already make enough money without that.
I’m worried that if I tell them firmly that I’m not interested in coaching and that I want to be removed that I’ll face pushback and retaliation.
Not sure if I’m really looking for advice, mostly just ranting. It’s incredibly frustrating that employers feel they can just bully their employees into doing things outside of their job responsibilities.
