Work revoked our holiday time off, any advice how to handle this?

So I work in a small community hospital in an out-patient center we are a breast center so we only do routine mammograms and ultrasounds, well since it’s been open if a holiday landed on a Sunday we would have the Monday off (opposite if the holiday is a Saturday, then we would have Friday off) well everyone was expecting to have the Monday off after Christmas and New Years and a few of us have even made plans to take advantage of the long weekend and go away. Well just last week we received an email that states that because the actual federal holiday is on a weekend we now have to come in the day after when we all expected to have the day off. I think that’s absolutely absurd to give us such short notice and there’s no reason that we should be open. Other outpatient facilities…

I’m so furious and I’ve already emailed HR with no response yet. Any advice how to handle this?
