Work wants me to use personal phone for work calls

So title says it all pretty much, but the place I work deals with repairs and they require all of us to use our personal phones for business calls to customers and I am not okay with this personally. Does anyone know if that's even legal? (UK for context) it wasn't detailed in my contract or interview and we aren't allowed to use the landline for calls, whenever I ask my co-workers why they say they don't know or something about it being expensive. My concern is that by calling customers I'm effectively giving out my mobile number to every random person who we do work for and I'm worried about security and privacy risks that poses.
