I am surrounded by workaholics and I feel so bad. My now-ex boss just retired and she’s still emailing us and holding meetings to make sure everything is going well. I appreciate her dedication to making this transition as seamless as possible (she was a great boss most of the time), but I want her to go sit down and enjoy her time off! Her replacement, my former coworker, is now super stressed and backed up on work. I feel so bad for her.
My mother has anxiety issues around working, but decided not to retire this year. Instead she’s working part time and continuing to stress herself out. Her job really doesn’t value her- they made her come in while she had COVID- but she needs the money, and is afraid of being idle. My dad retired years ago, but is not taking occasional work because social security pays shit.
The boomers are really not ok, and it’s modeling poor work-life balance for the rest of us. How do we get them to sit down and rest?
